Privacy Policy
Last updated 18 August 2026
Developer Compass is operated by Whirlwind Consultants Inc. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do about it. We are a small company and we have kept this short and literal.
We never see your card details. Payment information is collected and stored by Paddle.com, our merchant of record. It does not pass through our servers at any point.
1. What we collect
Account information
Your email address, and your name if you provide one. Collected when you sign up and held so we can identify you, authenticate you and contact you about your account.
Usage information
Which calendar days your account was active, and which plan you are on. This is what enforces the free tier's five-active-days limit. We record the day, not what you did during it.
Project data
The building parameters and scenarios you enter, and the scenarios you choose to save. Held so the Service can function and so your saved work is there when you return.
Payment information
Handled entirely by Paddle. We receive from Paddle only what we need to give you access: that a payment succeeded, which plan it was for, and when it expires. We do not receive or store card numbers.
Technical information
Standard web server logs — IP address, browser type, timestamps — kept briefly for security and troubleshooting.
2. What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever.
- We do not use advertising trackers or third-party advertising cookies.
- We do not share identifiable project data with anyone.
- We do not build profiles of you for marketing.
3. Legal basis
Under Canadian law (PIPEDA) we rely on your consent, given when you create an account. If you are in the EU or UK, our lawful bases under the GDPR are performance of a contract (running your account and subscription) and legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, and improving the product using aggregate data).
4. Who processes your data
We use these service providers. Each processes data only to deliver its part of the Service.
| Provider | Role | What it handles |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | Authentication | Email address, name, login sessions |
| Netlify | Hosting and application logic | Server logs, usage-day records, saved scenarios |
| Paddle | Merchant of record | Payment details, billing address, tax status, invoices |
| Cloudflare | Domain, DNS and email routing | Network traffic, messages sent to our support address |
These providers operate in Canada, the United States and the European Union, so your information may be stored or processed outside your own country and may be accessible to authorities there under local law. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent transfer mechanism.
5. How long we keep it
- Account and project data — while your account is open, and for 90 days after you close it, then deleted.
- Usage-day records — 13 months, so a monthly allowance can be applied correctly.
- Server logs — 30 days.
- Billing records — retained by Paddle for as long as tax law requires them to be kept, which is outside our control.
6. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit with HTTPS. Authentication is handled by Clerk rather than by passwords we store ourselves. Access to production data is limited to those who need it to operate the Service. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you promptly if a breach affects your information.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your account and the data associated with it;
- send you your data in a portable format;
- stop processing your data, or withdraw your consent.
Email support@developercompass.com. We respond within 30 days. There is no charge.
If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or — if you are in the EU or UK — to your local data protection authority.
8. Cookies
We use only what is necessary to run the Service: a session cookie set by Clerk to keep you signed in, and local browser storage for your working scenario. There are no analytics or advertising cookies. Because these are strictly necessary, no consent banner is required.
Paddle may set its own cookies during checkout. That is covered by Paddle's privacy policy.
9. Children
The Service is a professional tool and is not directed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect their information.
10. Changes
We will update this policy as the Service changes, and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be notified by email.
